Here are some notes on where we're coming from.

Conference

The PyCon UK Society held the first PyCon UK conference in September 2007, we thought we might get 80 delegates, in fact 202 people came. PyCon UK was repeated in 2008, when 240 people came.

In preparation for EuroPython 2009, we helped the organisation of EuroPython 2008 in Vilnius, Lithuania, which had 220 delegates.

In 2009 we held EuroPython 2009 in Birmingham, and with the economic recession thought we migh get 300 delegates, in fact 441 came.

As we were holding EuroPython, we decided not to hold a full PyCon UK 2009, but as we have to hold an AGM, we have decided to have a low key one day UnConference.

Dates

We need to hold the Society's AGM around September, so we've set September 5th as the date for PyCon UK 2009.

Venue

The venue chosen is the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) Centre, the home of the city's world-class orchestra. We held EuroPython 2009 sprints there.
